What is a DIN

Director identification number

What is a DIN used for?

The Central Government assigns a DIN, or unique director identification number, to everyone planning to become or already serving as a director of a corporation.

Who can apply for din?

Anybody who wants to join an already-existing company as a director must apply using e-Form DIR-3 for DIN allocation and must follow the guidelines.

What is DIN number used for?

It is a lifetime valid, eight-digit unique identification number. The directors’ information is kept up to date in a database via DIN. A person can only have one DIN, even if they are directors of multiple companies. This is because DINs are exclusive to an individual.

What is the age limit for din?

While the Companies Act does not set a minimum age requirement for directors in general, Form DIR-3, which is used to apply for a Director Identification Number (DIN), does establish an 18-year-old minimum age requirement.
